The Stupidest Movies of 2011

This was my snap review of Robots! in 3D.
Since I don't get paid to write about movies like many of the people I associate with, I have absolutely no obligation to see every film that comes out which allows me to curate my moviegoing decisions pretty well. Still, something will often slip through the cracks or my morbid curiosity will get the better of me so I always have a solid list of stinkers each year. Here are the movies that insulted my intelligence the most in 2011, presented in alphabetical odor order.

WWE presents In Your House: Empty Arena

Greetings, friends.

As you may have noticed it's been quite some time since I've been active on the ol' Blogger. However, recent going-ons at WWE have baffled me and drawn me out of the woodwork.

I haven't watched terribly much wrestling in recent years, with a good portion of that reason being that I don't have cable and another being that I haven't exactly been too impressed with what I've seen, but I do try to keep up on what's happening because I still like to try watching Wrestlemania or Royal Rumble if the opportunity comes around.

Um.. WHAT!?

Anybody who's been keeping an eye on the Oscar pools here know that we've been expecting big things for The Dark Knight in the nominations today. But where was it?! Nearly NOWHERE!! The big categories it was considered a contender in - Best Picture, Director, and Adapted Screenplay - completely shut it out.

And none of us were just predicting this as crazed Batman fans. Take a quick look at just about any noted and respected Oscar pundit's website (The Envelope at the LA Times is a good example) and they were in agreement. Add to that the fact it was recognized as one of the year's top films by National Board of Review, American Film Institute, and the Writers, Directors, and Producers Guilds -- all of these are incredibly reliable bellwethers to what's going to end up among the nominees. I'd also like to think I built up a pretty good argument for it winning the whole thing here.

Other surprises at a glance:
-Michael Shannon got a supporting nod. That guy rocks. I love how everybody cheered at the nominations for him.
-The Boss neglected for his song from The Wrestler? Somewhat surprised Gran Torino's song was shut out of that, too.
-Just about every nomination The Reader had. Nothing against the film itself, but that built up some steam out of nowhere.

The Olympics

I enjoy watching them, but curling? What the hell is up with that? Were they desperate to get another sport for people to compete in? You might as well add bowling to the Olympics (nothing against bowling, of course).
